3Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters, * and maketh the clouds his chariot, and walketh upon the wings of the wind.
4He maketh his angels winds, * and his ministers a flaming fire.
5He laid the foundations of the earth, * that it never should move at any time.
6Thou coveredst it with the deep like as with a garment; * the waters stand above the hills.

20Thou makest darkness that it may be night; * wherein all the beasts of the forest do move.
21The lions, roaring after their prey, * do seek their meat from God.
22The sun ariseth, and they get them away together, * and lay them down in their dens.
23Man goeth forth to his work, and to his labour, * until the evening.
24O LORD, how manifold are thy works! * in wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.
25So is the great and wide sea also; * wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
26There go the ships, and there is that leviathan, * whom thou hast made to take his pastime therein.
27These wait all upon thee, * that thou mayest give them meat in due season.
28When thou givest it them, they gather it; * and when thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good.
29When thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: * when thou takest away their breath, they die, and are turned again to their dust.
30When thou lettest thy breath go forth, they shall be made; * and thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
31The glorious majesty of the LORD shall endure for ever; * the LORD shall rejoice in his works.
32The earth shall tremble at the look of him; * if he do but touch the hills, they shall smoke.
33I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live; * I will praise my God while I have my being.
34And so shall my words please him: * my joy shall be in the LORD.
35As for sinners, they shall be consumed out of the earth, * and the ungodly shall come to an end.

First Lesson
Ecclesiasticus 17:1-151The Lord created man of the earth, and turned him into it again.
2He gave them few days, and a short time, and power also over the things therein.
3He endued them with strength by themselves, and made them according to his image,
4And put the fear of man upon all flesh, and gave him dominion over beasts and fowls.
5They received the use of the five operations of the Lord, and in the sixth place he imparted them understanding, and in the seventh speech, an interpreter of the cogitations thereof.]
6Counsel, and a tongue, and eyes, ears, and a heart, gave he them to understand.
7Withal he filled them with the knowledge of understanding, and shewed them good and evil.
8He set his eye upon their hearts, that he might shew them the greatness of his works.
9He gave them to glory in his marvellous acts for ever, that they might declare his works with understanding.
10And the elect shall praise his holy name.
11Beside this he gave them knowledge, and the law of life for an heritage.
12He made an everlasting covenant with them, and shewed them his judgments.
13Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard his glorious voice.
14And he said unto them, Beware of all unrighteousness; and he gave every man commandment concerning his neighbour.
15Their ways are ever before him, and shall not be hid from his eyes.

21And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
31There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
32And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

¶ Morning Prayer shall begin by reading one or more of the following Sentences of Scripture,
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm xix. 14.
O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me, and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling. Psalm xliii. 3.
Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah Ivii. 15.
The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. St. John iv. 23.

A General Confession.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind In Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
The Collect for the Twenty-first Sunday after Trinity.
GRANT, we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace; that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are any ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we, thine unworthy servants, do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and lovingkindness to us, and to all men; We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. 2 Corinthians 41Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The Second Lesson
Matthew 4:1-111Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.
3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

10And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
11And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
12It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

Second Lesson
2 Corinthians 5:11-2111Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
12For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
13For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.
14For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults.
